  • I Confess!
I had a deer in the headlights moment last night. I went on...and went up. No excuse, no reason, just went blank. Thankfully it was during a dress rehearsal and not during a performance. I think it was the Universe's way of saying; "Don't be so complacent Mr. 'I did the show before.' You too can blow it." My dreams were full of lousy show nightmares.

Okay. The good news is that the show is going to be very good. The cast has to kick it up a notch tonight (including me) and we still are all insecure about musical cues and set changes. Tonight is the preview. Now technically, people who come to a preview understand that it is really the "final dress" but they pay money at this theatre, a reduction, but still money. We've really suffered from not having an accompanist for the last week. If I have missed cues, having done the show previously, then I understand how difficult it can be for my colleagues. Nevertheless, this is a dedicated cast; from the kids through the adults. Come see it! Bring a kid.

I've been so impressed with the many hours people have poured into this show; especially Bob and Scott. Scott's the director, and this is his first "solo" gig. I can only imagine the anxiety that brings. Bob is an actor doing many roles in the show but also he's performed yeoman duties building, painting, supervising, the man's a whirlwind. I've mentioned before, and I know it's hackneyed, but it's the support people that make the show. It does not seem fair that we on the stage get all the credit and applause. It's funny though; most of the tech people I've met have no desire to be in front and most of the actors hate doing tech. One thing I know for certain; tech people get a whole lot more offers to work than do actors! So I guess when you consider relative value...
So thanks to all the great people with whom I've worked who have designed, created, built, lighted, and generally made the magic at Kelsey, Actors NET, Langhorne, Stagecrafters, Haddonfield and every other theater I've played.
